About

Dhimy Jean

Full-stack software engineer with a background in operations, building reliable applications and data-driven systems.

Who I am

I'm a software engineer studying Computer Science at Brooklyn College, after an A.S. in Computer Science from BMCC, where I made the Dean's List and was inducted into Phi Theta Kappa. I work across the stack and am strongest on backend and data work, using React, Node.js, PostgreSQL and Python.

How I got here

I came to engineering through operations. As a Guest Administration Officer at Royal Caribbean from 2012 to 2015, I handled immigration and documentation for 6,000+ passengers across 20+ international ports, where a paperwork error could delay a departure. I automated the recurring reports and cut manual data entry by 30%, and it taught me why reliable tooling matters.

That work is where I found that I would rather build the tools than work around them.

What shapes my work

That experience still shapes how I build: find the problem, understand what is actually happening, and build a system that makes it harder to repeat. At Walkspan ML, a data-quality check turned up a label-decoding defect that 78 passing tests had missed, and fixing it corrected how the model was scored. I apply the same habits in projects like PLANIT, BridgeAI and My Travel Buddy.

Beyond the code

I speak English, Spanish and French.
